OUr Story

On September 12th, 2021, Brigantine held a Parade of Heroes honoring fallen officers and first responders. Chris Brown, former New Jersey State Senator, made an official declaration that September 12th would henceforth be Ryan Rehill Day.

Several people offered donations in Ryan’s name to support the families of fallen officers. Some suggested creating a memorial golf tournament to raise additional funds. That’s when The Ryan Rehill Foundation was born.

Ryan’s parents Tom and Michele wanted people to remember Ryan’s name and to support those who strive to serve. With the donations they received from that event and from the golf tournament, they offered their first scholarships in 2021 to Rutgers ROTC member.

Ryan’s Story

Everyone knew Ryan when he was growing up in Brigantine, NJ. People would joke that the friendly and outgoing boy would someday become the Mayor of Brigantine. Ryan always had a way of bringing people together, and his house was ground central for the whole neighborhood.

Ryan’s Dad Tom was the Brigantine Chief of Police. His mom Michele worked at Ocean Casino while raising 3 kids. As Ryan grew older, it became clear that he’d follow in the family tradition of service. From a young age, he knew he’d go into the Army, ready to be part of the action wherever and whenever his country needed him.

Ryan was a strong believer in traditional American values - hard work, loyalty to friends, supporting your community, loving your country. He could surprise people. He was a tattooed fitness buff who wanted to be as strong as Arnold Schwarzenegger, but he was also an old soul who loved Frank Sinatra, hated social media, rooted for the underdog, and valued the togetherness and connection of family dinners. He was dedicated to helping others - during Hurricane Sandy, he learned how to rebuild and raise up the foundation of a house so he could help his neighbors recover from the storm. Every time he met a veteran, he’d want to hear their stories, thank them for their service, and learn from their example.

“I know that Ryan lived his life, although short, with 100% of his heart. I hope that the foundation will help to keep his memory alive for years to come.”
